Steel On It

[ About us ]

We turn industrial insights into concrete solutions.

STEEL ON IT is an Industrial Solutions Company: we develop products, design custom machinery and guide ideas all the way to market.

Our vision: one direction connecting idea, machine and market.

01 — Mission & approach

Built to give ideas a shape.

Steel On It was created with a clear purpose: to turn industrial insights and needs into concrete solutions that can be produced and that last. To do so, we bring together four disciplines that usually stay apart.

01

Product development

From insight to a product that works, sells and lasts.

02

Engineering

Rigorous technical design, focused on feasibility.

03

Production

Machines, processes and industrialization for consistent quality.

04

Commercial vision

Every solution designed to genuinely reach its market.

02 — Why Steel On It

What sets us apart.

  1. 01

    End-to-end approach

We follow the project from the first idea to support after delivery.

  2. 02

    Balance of product and engineering

We develop our own products and custom solutions: two experiences that feed each other.

  3. 03

    Attention to technical detail

The quality of a solution is decided in the details.

  4. 04

    International outlook

With the support of the international business network of Hermes Connect, we approach opportunities with a broader perspective.

  5. 05

    Idea, machine and market

We connect what usually travels apart: the concept, how to produce it and who will use it.

Interview

The People Behind the Engineering

Interview with Domenico, founding partner of Steel On It.

Editorial draft awaiting final approval

01 / 08

Domenico, let's start from the beginning. Where does your passion for mechanics come from?

I'm from Puglia, I lived in Milan and today I live in Bologna. I've been lucky enough to travel a lot and get to know many different industrial realities. Mechanics has always fascinated me, above all the possibility of turning an idea into something concrete. I don't think I've ever stopped being curious.

02 / 08

How did Steel On It come about?

From the desire to give a new dimension to many years of experience, ideas and projects. I didn't want to simply build machines, but to create something that brought together design, innovation and the development of new products. Steel On It was born with exactly that spirit.

03 / 08

Steel is even in the company's name. Why this material?

Because it is extraordinarily versatile. It is strong, relatively easy to source and allows extremely precise machining, even on very thin thicknesses. I'm fascinated by the possibility of turning such a common material into something completely new. And, personally, I have always paid particular attention to small details.

04 / 08

Speaking of new ideas, Tikol is your invention. How did it come about?

Tikol came from an intuition. First I imagined it, then I started drawing it, studying it and looking for the best way to make it. It was a path made of trials, changes and improvements, up to the development of the product and the patent. It's one of the things I love most about my work: starting from an idea and managing to give it shape.

05 / 08

They say you are capable of stopping during a dinner to sketch a change to a machine on a napkin. Is that true?

(Smiles)Yes, it has happened to me! Ideas don't always arrive when you're in front of a project. Sometimes you think about it for days and then the solution comes at the most unexpected moment. I've happened to work day and night on a detail, simply because I was convinced it could work better. It's hard to switch curiosity off.

06 / 08

Why did you choose Hermes Connect as a partner for this adventure?

Because we found a shared vision. I have always focused my energy on the technical side, on design and product development. With Hermes Connect we combined these skills with entrepreneurial experience and an international perspective. I strongly believe in collaborations where each person brings something different, but everyone looks in the same direction.

07 / 08

Steel On It has Italian roots, but looks to the world. How important is Madrid in this project?

Italy represents our roots and our industrial experience. Madrid, through Hermes Connect, is a reference point for international development. We want to work with companies from different countries, understand their needs and propose concrete solutions. Technology shouldn't have borders.

08 / 08

One last question, Domenico. What would you like a client to say about Steel On It in ten years' time?

That we managed to solve a problem that seemed difficult. I'm not interested in building the most complicated machine in the world. I'm interested in building the right one.

And perhaps, in the meantime, to have invented something no one had thought of yet.
